AES Camera is Money Machine?

Now everybody talk about AES in Malaysia. What AES actually? AES is stand for Automated Enforcement System which is the road safety enforcement system to monitored all federal roads, highways and expressways in Malaysia.

The AES uses high-technology cameras to detect traffic offenders, including those who beat the red traffic light sign and exceed the speed limit.  Each camera able to capture about 600 offenders a day.
The AES will be able to detect those who drive above the speed limit or beat the red light. There will be a 12mb image to indicate the time, date and location of the offence

There will be 566 speed cameras, 265 traffic light cameras and 250 mobile cameras (for places with inadequate infrastructure for installing a camera).

Please take note that the AES system was only an additional measure to reduce accidents.  The most effective way was for motorists to practise safe driving and abide by all traffic regulations.

Why the Government implement AES ?
Road Transport Department (JPJ) director-general Datuk Solah Mat Hassan said the implementation of the AES was “a serious move” by the Government to reduce the number of road fatalities.

With the implementation of AES, the authority hoped to discipline drivers to be more courteous on the road and increase the probability of traffic offenders being caught.

By knowing the location, road users will be more careful at these spots and will drive according to the law. It will reduce the number of deaths and our objectives to ensure the safety of road users will also be met.

Who is the owner of the AES ?
The Transport Ministry is the owner of the AES while its agencies will be responsible for executing the system.

The black spots have actually been identified based on studies by the Malaysia Institute of Road Safety Research and information from the police as well as the Public Works Department.
